The ratings: 5 stars means much above average, 4 stars above average, 3 stars about average, 2 stars below average and 1 star much below average.
The ratings are based on state inspections, staffing levels and quality measures, such as the percentage of residents with bed sores. Consumer groups advise considering the star ratings but not to rely solely on them in comparing centers.
