Chapter 7 bankruptcy means a company is planning to liquidate. Chapter 11 means a company is seeking protection from creditors as it attempts to reorganize. Information in the first database is from January 2009 until now for cases filed with the Tampa division of the Florida Middle District of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court. The second database features counties that meet two criteria: At least 10 business bankruptcies were filed from June 2006 to June 2007 and they showed an increase in the number of bankruptcy filings during the year that followed.
