Best Of The South Review:
About The Team
The Tampa Tribune’s sixth annual Best of the South team was chosen by 18 college recruiting coordinators from across the nation with an eye on the Feb. 6 signing date. Each coordinator was asked to pick 20 prospects from a list of players in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and West Virginia – covering the Southern region, all of SEC territory and most of the ACC.
The ballot – which listed 88 players – was compiled by staff writers Joey Johnston, Bob Bellone and Mike Garbett. It was based on a consensus of several recruiting analysts. Receiving votes were 81 of the 88 players on the ballot, along with six write-in candidates.
The top 20 vote-getters made the team.
Florida had eight picks, followed by South Carolina with three and Alabama, Georgia and North Carolina with two each. Louisiana, Mississippi and Virginia had one each.
