Torture, Drugging Conviction Upheld

A federal appeals court on Tuesday upheld the conviction of Steven Lorenzo, who is serving 200 years in federal prison for drugging and sexually torturing nine men.

"There was ample evidence to support the jury's verdict of conviction on all counts," the Atlanta-based 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals wrote.

Steven Lorenzo

Background: Lorenzo, 45, of Tampa, was indicted in November 2004, on charges that he drugged and raped seven men. He was found guilty on Nov. 10, 2005. He was sentenced to 200 years in prison. Lorenzo is also a suspect in the murders of Jason Galehouse, 26, whose body is missing, and Michael Wachholtz, 26, whose body was dumped at an apartment complex. Both disappeared Dec. 20, 2003 in Tampa.

Scott Schweickert

Background: Schweickert, 39, of Orlando and Illinois, is in jail on charges linking him to a crime of violence. In an affidavit, a federal agent said Schweickert described how he helped dispose of Galehouse and Wachholtz's bodies after Lorenzo killed them. Schweickert was sentenced to 40 years for his part in the crimes.

Victim: Jason Galehouse

Background: Galehouse, 26, of Sarasota, went missing in December 2003. Schweickert told investigators that he and Lorenzo picked up Galehouse at the 2606 North Armenia Lounge, a Tampa gay bar. A federal agent said Schweickert told investigators that Lorenzo killed Galehouse, and he helped dismember the body and dump it in trash bins around Tampa.

Victim: Michael Wachholtz

Background: Wachholtz, 26, of Tampa, disappeared the day after Galehouse went missing. Wachholtz's body was found weeks later in the trunk of his car. Schweickert told investigators that Lorenzo killed Wachholtz in his Seminole Heights home, according to a federal affidavit. The body was discovered Jan. 6, 2004.
