About 30 victim advocates stood in a tight-knit half-circle Sunday night, holding candles near the war memorial in Largo Central Park to pray and recommit to fighting domestic violence, a crime that claimed 11 lives in Pinellas County in 2007. One woman sang almost silently. Members of the Pinellas County Domestic Violence Task Force, and others touched by the violence, read off the names of the 11, noting that more than 20,000 calls came in to the county's domestic violence hot line last year. "This is about improving the community's response and to increase victim safety," task force chairwoman Wendy Lomas said before the 30-minute vigil. SEBRING INTERNTATIONAL RACEWAY — Friday's last light crept behind the horizon as the roar of the engines pierced the night air during the Night Enduro races as part of the 2007 Sebring Historic Fall Classic. Engines wined and the crews watched the bounty of their labor speeding around the 3.7 mile curcuit, as the fans in attendence got to enjoy racing under the lights and see the fight around Sunset Bend (Turn 17) for the win. In the vintage class, Jeff McKain from Virginia Beach, Va. took the checkered flag in his '65 Shelby GT 350 seconds ahead of Lutz Biedermann of Germany and his '74 Porsche 911 IROC with the '74 Porsche 911 of Jason Scott coming in third. ...more
