I disagree to some extent with your recent op-ed piece on Congressman Mahoney. Putting his sexual peccadilloes aside, Mr. Mahoney, who purports himself to be a blue dog conservative Democrat, voted in lock step with the party line of Nancy Pelosi and the rest of her far left cadre of liberal socialists. If you had researched Mr. Mahoney's voting record, you have found that he supported the billions in bailout legislation as well as just about every pork barrel project in sight. His voting record in no way could be considered conservative. ...more

If voters in the 16th Congressional district were struggling to decide whom to vote for in our district's U.S. House of Representative race, the process got a lot easier this week. Rep. Tim Mahoney's troubles concerning an affair, and now allegations of another affair, are enough to knock him from consideration. Besides all that, his Republican challenger, Tom Rooney, is a quality candidate whom we endorse for the position. ...more

AVON PARK — She would have supported the 2006 Avon Park housing ordinance. She advocates English only for government signs and ballots. And she would require all illegal aliens to return to their country. But she's not anti-Hispanic. She sponsored a house resolution urging Congress to fund the Indian River Lagoon South Restoration Project, and she supports the Everglades restoration. But she shirks the label "environmentalist." And Gayle Harrell calls Tim Mahoney an accidental congressman. "He was simply the luckiest guy around," said Harrell, who is running against two other Republicans for the 16th district nomination.
