The news story regarding the school district financial rating was interesting. I really liked the statement made by the Asst. Superintendent of Business Operations Mike Averyt, "What hurts the most was the legislature when they took our millage away." I have news for you Mr. Averyt, the legislature didn't take your money, that money belongs to the taxpayers. As a taxpayer, I don't feel overly compelled to ever see that money restored until some of the fat is cut out of the Highlands County School District. ...more

I recently put a letter in Highlands Today requesting some help for a project that would put people to work. Let me tell you the response I got. I sent a letter to Governor Crist asking for his support. To my surprise the phone rang at work. It was one of his aides that called me and said if I needed any help to call him. There's plenty to dislike about U2 and most of them are named Bono. He's pompous and self-righteous, will hobnob with any sleazy politico if it gets him on the news, and is eager to chide fans who've paid $100-plus to see his band that they need to donate to his causes.
