In an economy hammered by job cuts and lost investments, there is something that has consumers feeling good again: Lower gasoline prices. After enduring months of record high pump prices, motorists and businesses are paying about $1 a gallon less for fuel than they were over the summer. Pump prices in the Tampa Bay area are averaging $2.87 a gallon, down from a high of $4.01 on July 16, according to AAA. ...more

A narrow strip of land along the top of the Shoppes at New Tampa has become a hurdle in the county's effort to extend State Road 56 across Wiregrass Ranch. County officials disagree with the road builders – Locust Branch LLC and the Meadow Pointe IV Community Development district -- over how to get access to about 10 feet along the northern edge of the plaza and who should do it. The strip of land wasn't in the original plans for the six-lane highway now under construction just east of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard. The Blind Leading The Blind I see in today's paper that the county is planning to resurface Deltona Boulevard only north of Northcliffe Boulevard with a "micro surface" of asphalt. Figures, that part is in fairly decent condition and could use a good "black painting." I can actually trip over the buildup of white lines crossing the street but can twist an ankle in a rut or two on Deltona South of Forest Oaks Boulevard all the way to Spring Hill Drive. ...more
