Family and friends joined the 810th Military Police Company on Saturday for a ceremony to mark its imminent deployment to Iraq. The 170-soldier Combat Support unit will spend up to 10 months in Baghdad, where they will train members of the Iraqi Police Service in law enforcement operations. The 810th will travel to Fort Dix, N.J., on Jan. 24, where they will prepare for their mission for six to eight weeks. The news this week that 2007 became the deadliest year for U.S. troops in Iraq was brought home Wednesday with a solemn ceremony for two local U.S. Army sergeants who died half of a world away two months ago. Hillsborough County Commissioners honored Sgt. Cory Clark of Plant City who was killed on Aug. 28 in Afghanistan and Sgt. 1st Class David A. Heringes of Tampa who died a day later in Iraq. ...more
