Avon Park senior James Bland became the first state wrestling champion in school history when he won the 160-pound weight class at the Class 1A state tournament in Lakeland on Saturday night. McKeel guard Cappy Toney scored a game-high 28 points on Saturday night to lead the Wildcats to a 60-30 victory over Lake Placid in the championship final of the Class 3A-District 10 tournament. Lake Placid was led by Kaneisha Hamilton, who scored a game-high 11 points before injuring her knee late in the second quarter. An ambulance was called and the game was delayed more than 20 minutes as the senior was carried off on a stretcher. The extent of her injury is unknown at this time. ...more
