CHARGERS ...31 EAGLES ...23 LaDainian Tomlinson scored twice to continue his climb up the career rushing and scoring lists, and San Diego won its fourth straight to pull into a tie atop the AFC West with slumping Denver. The Chargers and Broncos, both 6-3, play next Sunday in Denver. Four weeks ago, the Chargers appeared dead in the water, 3 1/2 games back after losing 34-23 to the then-undefeated Broncos. Philadelphia's Donovan McNabb threw for a season-high 450 yards, completing 35 of 55, and two late touchdowns. He was intercepted in the end zone by Antonio Cromartie on the game's last play. ...more

CHARGERS ...21 GIANTS ...20 Philip Rivers capped an 80-yard drive with an 18-yard pass to Vincent Jackson with 21 seconds to play and San Diego handed New York its fourth straight loss. Rivers was 24 of 36 for 209 yards and three touchdowns, including two to Jackson, in helping the Chargers win their third straight. The Giants are 5-4 heading into a bye week and not looking very much like a playoff team. In the first meeting between Rivers and Giants quarterback Eli Manning since they were dealt for each other on draft day 2004, Terrell Thomas intercepted Rivers' pass late in the fourth quarter and returned it 33 yards to the San Diego 4. A holding penalty on first down pushed New York back 10 yards, and it had to settle for a short field goal and a six-point lead that Rivers and Jackson erased. Rivers hit Kris Wilson on a 2-yarder in the third to give San Diego a 14-7 lead in a game in which the Giants defense rebounded from miserable efforts the previous three weeks. ...more

CHARGERS ...24 RAIDERS ...16 Some things never change in San Diego, such as the great weather and LaDainian Tomlinson and the Chargers beating hapless Oakland. Tomlinson scored twice, the first in the wildcat, and the Chargers earned their 13th straight victory against the Raiders. It's the longest active NFL winning streak by one team over another. The Chargers swept the series for the sixth straight season. Many Chargers, including quarterback Philip Rivers, have never lost to the Raiders. It was San Diego's seventh straight home win against the Raiders. The Chargers sacked JaMarcus Russell five times. ...more

CHARGERS ...37 CHIEFS ...7 Philip Rivers threw three touchdowns passes and LaDainian Tomlinson rushed for 71 yards. Rivers was 18 of 30 for 268 yards and three TDs as the Chargers won their third in a row in Kansas City for the first time since 1981. The Chiefs were unable to build on last week's sloppy win against Washington. They fell behind 20-0 in the first half, Matt Cassel threw three interceptions and the Chargers scored their final touchdown when Jacob Hester blocked a punt at the 20, chased the ball into the end zone and fell on it. ...more

PLAYER OF THE GAME Philip Rivers is in rare company. But not just because he leads all NFL quarterbacks in passer rating. Rivers, who completed 21 of 31 throws for 287 yards and a career-best four touchdowns Sunday, is one of only two quarterbacks to leave a game against the Bucs at Raymond James Stadium this year with a better passer rating than he had going in. Rivers came into the game with a 101.4 mark. In beating the Bucs he posted a mark of 136.7 and he did so rather effortlessly. Aided by a rushing attack that kept the Bucs off-balance and perhaps by a defense that played a little soft in coverage, Rivers moved the ball around to a variety of receivers and quickly drove the Chargers downfield in drive after drive. Scouts will tell you Rivers has a tendency to run hot and cold and that he sometimes tightens up in big games. Maybe they're right. But Rivers was as hot as could be and there was nothing tight about him. ...more
