Rowan, now serving as interim Avon Park police chief after the forced resignation of former chief Frank Mercurio, said Wednesday that he plans to apply for the open position. City Manager C.B. We should honor the men and women who served and sacrificed to keep America free, and to salute the families of the missing who continue to keep the candle of hope alive today. The National POW/MIA Recognition Day is Sept. 21. There are about 88,000 Americans to date who are missing and unaccounted for from the wars which our nation was involved in, going back as far as World War II. These are our military, and civilians who are our mothers, fathers, sons, daughters. How sad. A lot of these wars ended a long time ago. But as we pause to remember their sacrifices, we should also remember the sacrifices of the families who are still grieving their loss. ...more
