It is amazing to think that one individual could cause so much trouble for individuals trying to provide a much needed service to the community. How could a facility exist for over 15 years without complaints and then have the noise become intolerable after one individual moves into the area? The complainant was told, at the time he visited the rental property, that a kennel was located nearby. Common sense would have told anyone that there would be barking. If the barking is as bad as the complainant now claims, wouldn't he have heard it while visiting the property? Did the dogs begin to bark just because he moved in? Of course not. ...more

Governor Crist and the Legislature are not dumb people. They have to know, deep down, that a state can't lock in property tax rates at 1995 levels for 40 percent of its tax base and survive for very long in an economic and real estate downturn. Common sense needs to make a comeback in the economics of our state, and common sense tells us that Amendment One is in no way a serious attempt at true property tax reform for the future of the state of Florida and our own hometown communities. ...more

We who live on this lake do so because we choose to and are willing to deal with the bugs and the low water, high taxes and all the downsides that no one has control over. Last night I went to bed at 10:30 p.m. with the noise of airboats thumping and humming past the house until late into the night and waking me at 6:15 a.m. this morning. Having friends with airboats and enjoyed them myself years ago, I understand the fun and excitement they are to a lot of people, and feel that this being a big lake can be enjoyed by all the people if we all use it responsibly. ...more
