No one would argue that interim City Manager Ellen Posivach has had her hands full since taking that position nearly three months ago. So busy, in fact, that it wasn't until the City Council's March 10 meeting that she got around to the small matter of being properly paid for the job she's been doing. Posivach presented an outline for a contract proposal at the meeting. While the Council agreed - for the most part - that she has been doing a fine job and the current terms of employment need to be reviewed, they decided a bit of negotiating was in order. ...more

It had to be done. For the sake of cutting costs and keeping with the future of fire and rescue response, eliminating the communications center in Spring Hill and reaching an interlocal agreement with the county was the best course of action, according to the majority of those on the fire board. ...more

Your recent editorial in the Tribune concerning contract negotiations with the Tampa firefighters reported information that is inaccurate and misleading. The Tribune editorial, "By Demanding 10 Percent Raise, City Firefighters Insult Taxpayers" (Our Opinion, Dec. 14),claims "government unions have lost all sense of economic reality." ...more

The police union is upset with Hillsborough County Sheriff David Gee because he won't go along with its contract proposal. But you won't see anything about its demand for raises of up to 10 percent in the union's brochures or ads attacking the sheriff. ...more

Zephyrhills' David Reutimann is one driver who wishes NASCAR's Car of Tomorrow wasn't making its super speedway debut this weekend at Talladega. He had a very good run in the old car in Talladega's spring race, climbing into the top five when his engine expired in the closing laps. In this week's edition of his Tampa Tribune diary, Reutimann says he doesn't expect his COT Toyota to be as competitive. ...more
