It was supposed to be a winter wonderland. When Beach Park's Howard Hilton was planning the Great Tampa Snow Show, he envisioned smiling kids, Santa Claus spreading good cheer, frolicking reindeer and lots of snow. SEBRING — It wasn't like finding a horse's head at the foot of the bed, like in "The Godfather" movie, but finding a dead deer on the hood of your mom's car parked in your driveway could be just as unnerving. "Weird," was how Sebring Police Lt. Bruce Crum put it Monday. Next to the deer's body and held down by a silver dollar was a poem Sunday morning on a torn slip of paper. The lyrics were from the song "Aenima" by an alternative metal rock band called "Tool." The police were called at 10:14 a.m. Sunday to the 1700 block of Myrtle Avenue, in Sebring. The complainant, a 21-year-old woman, told police that she and her boyfriend had returned home at about 3 a.m. Sunday and didn't see any deer then. ...more
