When I was little, I wanted a troll for Christmas. It wasn't just me; my brothers wanted one, too. Only problem was our mom hated trolls; she thought they were ugly and pointless. Everyday I check out the editorials in the Highlands Today. I can't wait to read the letters submitted to the editor. Some of them make for interesting reading, while some of them are just meaningless ramblings. The letter from Bill Ross in Sunday's edition was one of those. Reading it over several times, it was hard to figure out the point he was trying to get across. He rambled on from George Bush to McCain and Palin. Then on to JFK and Cassius Clay. For the life of me I could not figure out why he had Clay included in that list of political powerhouses. What has he accomplished that rates him up there with those who have made a difference? ...more

Melissa Post has lots of free time on her hands. That's how the South Tampa resident explained designing a Don King costume for her dog, Frank. It seemed like a logical choice, she said, since King is a famous professional boxing agent known for his tall, frizzy hairstyle and Frank is her beloved 4-year-old boxer. Frank's tuxedo, furry grey and black wig and golden dollar sign chain earned him first place in the funniest costume category in the Humane Society of Tampa Bay's fifth annual Pet Masquerade, held Saturday in Old Hyde Park Village. ...more
