The astronauts orbit the earth in diapers, or as in the case of one astronaut, drive 1,000 miles in one. Caregivers of quadriplegics or paraplegics know the frailties of store-bought diapers, sometimes failing from one room to another. After eight years of care-giving under these circumstances it gets stressful. Maybe I am ignorant of something better on the market. If so please tell me. If not, please someone in the sciences invent an astronaut diaper for civilians. ...more

Leonard Pitts's article on the conservative's having given negative connotations to the words "liberal" and "feminism," also applies to the word "evolution." (A Liberal Defense of the Word Feminist, 2/8/08) Evolution tells us that species must adapt to changing environments if they are to survive. Jesus told us we must change our ways by conquering our fears if we wish to survive. What Jesus proved is that it is possible to change our ways, and non-violence will be our salvation. What science has proven, unknowingly, is what religion has known all along. ...more

Sometimes, a fence helps –– and helps a lot. For all those who thought no fence could keep overzealous all-terrain vehicle riders away from the Carter Creek Scrub area, there is some good news. The gates to the Carter Creek fence, installed to keep ATVs out, have not been installed yet, but Riverdale Road and surrounding areas have been a lot more quieter with the fence nearly completed, authorities say. There are believed to be few ATVs in the area in recent weeks, or at least authorities have received much fewer complaints. ...more

It's a ritual. Every day I skim the obituaries, reading most, especially the memorials. Some I see every year, with the face of the loved one frozen in time. The family's sentiments touch my heart. This expensive little piece of black and white real estate is one more way of holding onto a face and voice that will never mature beyond that horrible day when that loved one slipped out of his or her immortal body and infused his or her soul and spirit into the very air the family breathes, into the tears that still pour from their eyes at a chance memory. ...more

People talk about Christmas, but why don't they stop and think who made this earth? It was God above, not them. Christmas was our Savior's birthday and no one talks or says anything about our Savior Christ Jesus. He is 2007 years old; he is the only one that walks this earth for us, and they do not even wish him a happy birthday. People should look up once in a while and just see what is around us, and then thank Him for what we have. God is good, why not talk about Him. Maybe you would realize what we have. Uncle Sam has been taken out of Washington, D.C., and who is in there for the people, in there for us? No one is for Social Security and Medicare. At least "He" helps us. They are all too greedy up there when they take $4,000 away from the Social Security and Medicare, and people are trying to make it through. I can tell you why it is, it is all "dog eat dog" up there. They are just for themselves and you can't tell me they aren't. ...more
