Regarding "Bedlam plagues clunker program" (Aug. 2): In America, it seems, we have a tendency to buy new and dispose of old items even if they are still usable. An idea: Do not destroy the vehicles. I am sure that at least 25 percent to 50 percent are drivable. Maybe the miles per gallon might not be the best, but donate them to the Salvation Army, Goodwill, VFW or the Kidney Foundation. Maybe even our military and their families could use a vehicle. ...more

Hundreds of people lined up at Five Star Dental Care July 11 to take dentist Jeff Bynum up on his offer to provide free services for anyone without insurance or enough money to pay for treatments. Many camped out overnight at the office. Bynum said the event was a great success. ...more
