Recent letters to the Tribune have dealt with socialized health care. The most amusing was the "Letter Of The Day" submitted by a Canadian woman who by her own admission spends a great deal of time getting "free" care. Ailments included two knee replacements, bowel surgery, ankle surgery and numerous other problems. I wonder what kind of program the Canadian government has to try to keep people healthy. ...more

In reference to an article in the June 28 Tampa Tribune titled "Landlords not wanting to rent to families who have been foreclosed on, losing their homes." How dare they? How dare them pass judgment on a family's misfortunes and place them in a category of deadbeats, insinuating that they do not want to pay for a roof over their family's heads. Not everyone is looking for a "free ride" or out to get something for free. I realize that there are people out there like that, but you simply cannot stereotype all people that have had foreclosures or other misfortunes as deadbeat. ...more

Anyone who thought Sen. Barack Obama was getting a free ride in his quest for the White House needs to think again. His Democratic rival, Sen. Hillary Clinton, along with many Republicans, have started the mudslinging and body blows. That's because they are scared of the man who seems to be generating interest across party lines and throughout the country. Clinton stomped her feet and cried foul about something Obama said concerning her support for NAFTA in the 1990s. He said that as first lady, when her husband was a big promoter of free trade, that she also supported it. For some reason his statement enrages her now. That's strange, because she never mentioned anything against NAFTA before. ...more
