Recently I heard a discussion on a local radio station about the deficiencies of our library system. This made me think of an announcement on the same station reporting possible library closings in Volusia and Palm Beach counties. Could this happen in Highlands? You betcha! Considering the income climate, we could find ourselves driving miles for current best sellers, DVDs, videos and computer usage time. Our Lake Placid library is staffed with dedicated, friendly and knowledgeable employees. Their willingness to help surpasses any library I've visited. The redesigned and enlarged Palm Harbor Library is positioning itself to be a community cultural destination.
