Tampa Bay defensive end Gaines Adams gave his team a glimmer of hope. The Bucs had not applied much defensive line pressure before Saturday's 23-17 preseason loss against Jacksonville. Tampa Bay's starting front four did not record a sack in two games. No backup player made an impact. ...more

In The Trenches The loss of Davin Joseph to a broken right foot means the Bucs almost certainly will start the season with rookie Jeremy Zuttah at right guard. Zuttah gets his first taste of life as an NFL starter tonight, and he definitely bears watching. Zuttah played mostly tackle last year at Rutgers and is still learning the guard position. He hasn't played like a newcomer in camp workouts or preseason practices, but he is going against a couple of strong veterans in John Henderson and Rob Meier tonight. If the Bucs can move the ball and protect the passer the way they did when Joseph was healthy, it will be a good indication they can weather the storm without Joseph. It's too much to ask Zuttah to consistently play at the level Joseph did, but the line as a whole must remain a strength for the Bucs to be viable playoff contenders. If the Bucs can push around the Jaguars the way they did the Dolphins and Patriots, it will boost confidence. ...more

Splitting Hairs With Joey Galloway strapped to the sideline by a nagging groin strain, the Bucs have been working Antonio Bryant out at split end. They're working other players there as well, but Bryant is the one who bears watching tonight. The Bucs offense desperately needs a speedy receiver to clear out the middle of the field for its flanker, tight end and backs, so the split end is a key component. No one expects Bryant to unseat Galloway as the starter, but if Bryant can make some catches at this spot it will go a long way toward filling a need the Bucs have been looking to fill. ...more

Fans Need To Learn How To Handle Success As Tampa Bay celebrates the Rays' winning season, I think it is important to make sure fans learn how to win with class. Baseball is America's pastime and is typically enjoyed by people of all ages. The fans a winning season has brought to the ballpark, however, seem more interested in bragging rights and chest beating. They use foul language and engage in actions embarrassing to a parent, to a fan, to a citizen of the community. The Rays have had to learn how to win together. Fans now need to do the same. Bring your mitt, bring your enthusiasm, but leave the trash at home. ...more
