Regarding "City May Raise Garbage Rates" (front page, Feb. 14): Instead of raising fees for garbage collection, I would propose that the city of Tampa could save millions by simply cutting back collection to one day a week. I've lived in a small town, a small city and the seventh-largest city in the country and have never had garbage collected twice a week in any of these locations. Pasco County commissioners discussed today exclusive territories for trash haulers and a mandatory blue-bag recycling program for urban areas instead of building a recycling facility. During the discussion commissioners raised the possibility neighborhoods would no longer have several garbage trucks, from competing trash haulers, rumbling down their streets.
