HURRICANES 4, PANTHERS 3: Cory Stillman's second goal of the game with 1:09 left lifted Carolina shortly after fellow Hurricanes forward Erik Cole was removed from the ice on a stretcher. Cole was wheeled off with less than 8 minutes remaining in the third period after he collided with Florida goaltender Tomas Vokoun. Stillman netted the winner when his backhanded pass from behind the net hit Vokoun's pad and Florida defenseman Steve Montador's stick and found its way into the net. FLYERS 3, ISLANDERS 2: Scottie Upshall scored twice to lead Philadelphia to a win over New York and help the Flyers remain undefeated at home. The Flyers are 6-0 at the Wachovia Center and have re-established the home-ice advantage they wasted last season when they won only 10 times. DEVILS 3, PENGUINS 2: Patrik Elias ended an 11-game slump without a goal exactly when New Jersey needed him to, scoring with 5 1/2 minutes remaining as the Devils couldn't hold a two-goal lead but came back to beat Pittsburgh. Penguins defenseman Jarkko Ruutu briefly left Elias undefended in the Devils' end, allowing Elias to take the lead on a 3-on-2 break. He beat goalie Dany Sabourin cleanly off Brian Gionta's pass. PREDATORS 4, BLUE JACKETS 1: J.P. Dumont had two goals and an assist as Nashville sent Columbus to its fourth straight loss. Martin Erat tallied twice - including an empty-netter - and had two assists to record a career-high four points for Nashville. The Associated Press ...more
