SEBRING — Highlands County teachers are learning a new way to teach reading. About 325 teachers are picking up new strategies at Hill-Gustat Middle School this week. The Florida Reading Initiative is "providing us not just philosophy and theory, but taking us through the steps of actually instructing quality reading," said District Director of Elementary Programs Joyce McClelland. Regarding "Teacher Thanks Little Lifesavers" (Metro, April 16): Our daughter, Shelly Copeland, a third-grade teacher at Folsom Elementary School, was able to celebrate her 33rd birthday April 17 thanks to the quick emergency responses from several groups of people in Hillsborough County.
