The Arizona Republic, on health care reform: There is a lot wrong with the current state of affairs in American health care. But the rapid rise in costs - including a 131 percent rise in employer-sponsored premiums in just the past 10 years - is what drives this current fight for reform. ...more

Our representatives in Washington have a new idea on health care reform: national, government-run health insurance that is optional on a state-by-state basis. This idea, pushed by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, is effectively reviving the most controversial and wrongheaded idea in the current health care reform debate. ...more

There has been a lot of discussion about the new health care reform bill before Congress and I would like to add my perspective. First I would like to agree with the conservatives that claim that this is a government intrusion into the private business of health care. Second, I would like to assert that this is a good thing, although I think this assertion is a matter of perspective. If you think Social Security is government intrusion into the retirement planning that we should do on our own, then you will hate this type of government action. If, however, you think we are a society that should and can provide for the health of all of our members then you will agree that this bill is long overdue. The simple issue is this: Do we as a society think it is our duty to make sure health care is available to all, or do we believe that those that want good health care should have planned better and gotten a career that provided health insurance for life and that those that didn't plan better, can simply die from lack of services brought on by their own lack of planning, or inability to get such a job? ...more

National health care has become the rule in every industrialized country in the world except for the richest one, the United States. This is a national disgrace that must end. Since the insurance industry has decided to place profitability before patient care, your help is necessary to end this morally reprehensible practice and once and for all guarantee Americans health insurance as a right. Many eyes are trained on Congress now and failing to carry out this popular mandate will surely jeopardize your personal chance for re-election. Do your duty and help protect the electorate which has allowed you the great privilege of service in Washington. Don't let yourself or your constituents down; you know what is right, and vote for health care reform. ...more
