Deanne Martin grabbed her purse and told her family she would be right back. She left their Wesley Chapel home about 10:25 p.m. on April 28. Her family hasn't seen her since. Martin's family thinks she might have contemplated suicide and hopes that she can be found before anything happens to her, said her sister, Jan Ayers. The Pasco County Sheriff's Office is working the case as a missing person investigation. ...more

LAND O' LAKES -- A group of children headed to school from the Chelsea Woods Apartments shared their bus shelter with a dead man this morning. Deputies responding to an 8:27 a.m. call from a distressed mother found a 19-year-old white male sitting on a bench in a bus shelter at 4453 Alpine Road. Investigators believe he died of a self-inflicted gunshot to the head; a neighbor reported hearing a gunshot at about 3:50 a.m. today, Pasco County Sheriff's Office spokesman Doug Tobin said. ...more

TAMPA - Eight days into her college career, Plant High graduate Mary Grace Taaffe died from injuries suffered in a crash in which she drove under the influence. On Sunday, investigators charged Florida Gulf Coast University students Nicholas Charles Herrig, 19, and Kevin Michael Curtin, 19, with misdemeanor charges of hosting an open house party. Taaffe left the party minutes before her crash. Different charges are pending against partygoers Tyler Fry, Brian Cochran and Brett Griffin, a release states. The three "gave false statements to law enforcement" about what they knew about the party and crash, an investigative report released today states. ...more

AVON PARK — Authorities suspect arson destroyed a detached garage and car, which also was found with racial slurs spray-painted over them early Sunday morning. The state fire marshal is still investigating the fire near Avon Park Middle School and no suspects were listed, but Avon Park Fire Department Capt. Robert Border said the anti-Hispanic slurs and a Folk Nation gang sign spray-painted on the garage made it "highly suspicious." He couldn't recall the last time Avon Park had a racially motivated arson. "It's been a while since we had something this bad," he said. ...more
