County commissioners today delayed until Monday any action on their revised deal with the companies building the eastern extension of State Road 56. The road builders requested the delay Tuesday to work out final details of the deal with county staffers, said David Evans, president of Locust Branch LLC, one of the three companies involved in the road project. The developers of Wiregrass Ranch, the Shops at Wiregrass mall and the Meadow Pointe IV Community Development District are working together to build the six-lane extension of S.R. 56 east of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard. The first leg of the new road is set to open in October to provide access to the mall. A narrow strip of land along the top of the Shoppes at New Tampa has become a hurdle in the county's effort to extend State Road 56 across Wiregrass Ranch. County officials disagree with the road builders – Locust Branch LLC and the Meadow Pointe IV Community Development district -- over how to get access to about 10 feet along the northern edge of the plaza and who should do it. The strip of land wasn't in the original plans for the six-lane highway now under construction just east of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard. It's needed to ensure crews can build S.R. 56 to its full width and provide the plaza with a new northern entrance ...more
