A farm couple in Colorado opened their fields in November to gleaners, giving away what was left of their harvest. Expecting about 5,000 people, they were shocked when 40,000 arrived. This might be a sign of the times. As the economy plummets, we enter an environment ripe for scavengers. Pertaining to the ditch cleaning dirt along the roads and highways of Highlands County. They used to give that dirt to the residents here in the area to fill in low spots in their yards, but now, because of someone's bright idea, they have the Road and Bridge Department drive 20-30 miles round trip to dump it in the landfill. Doesn't this practice fill up they landfill much quicker and cost the residents of Highlands County thousands of dollars more in fuel costs and man hours, trucking this dirt all the way out to the landfill?
