I found Randy Ludacer's letter vilifying our Southern heritage particularly distasteful and full of the kind of politically correct hatred that today is poisoning our traditional values. Southern heritage is as much about love of our families and our God as it is about displaying the Stars and Bars as a reminder of that heritage. ...more

Many friends celebrated the life of Lyn Roche a few weeks ago. I was privileged to be one of them. She truly was the caregiver's caregiver. My husband had Alzheimer's disease. Through their support group Lyn and Bill gave me and many others information and practical solutions to our every day challenges. ...more

On May 16, a wonderful event occurred: a celebration of life and caring. Jason Pearson was horribly injured in a motorcycle accident and needs help for medical bills. This wonderful community of Sebring citizens, led by bikers of Highlands County, spent the day traveling to seven different establishments to eat, drink and celebrate Jason's recovery. Mr. Hensley, you were right on target in your column about Lyn Roche. We have truly lost a lady who was a servant of God with that something extra that radiated from her soul. I have lost a friend; we have all lost a friend (as we all believe that we were her best friend) and I will miss the sound of her saying my name in that special way, but I can just imagine how thrilled she was when she heard her "Master" say her name last Wednesday. ...more

Since the United States taxpayer funds his campaign, money is not a problem. ...more

It's funny what one little American television show can do to the fashion world. Kanye West, rapper and fabulous fan of fashion, did his thing on "American Idol" recently wearing a vintage Levi's Red Tag denim jacket. Now, the jean jacket is hotter than its 1980s acid resurge. ...more

America's educational system is a mess. We have students slipping through the cracks, failing to perform and flat out getting through without possessing the basic knowledge they need to succeed. It has become a tradition of sorts for each new president to address this issue with a nationalized plan for reform. I usually don't agree with very much that comes out on the national level, dictating to the masses, but sometimes I actually do. ...more
