Time For Leavitt To Improve Coach Jim Leavitt was the perfect man to build the USF football program from scratch. Early on, he willed the Bulls to victory in some big games with his emotion and stubbornness. He even got an A-plus training facility built at a university with a skinflint budget for athletics. What a perfect choice to lay the foundation. He now needs to watch how some successful coaches manage winning programs. He should have the courage to hire great assistants and listen to their input. He also should save the antics and emotions for the biggest games. Those things are like a spice - great in small amounts, but they ruin a dish if overused. Now is the time to instill confidence, discipline and calmness in the players. Emotion cannot be sustained throughout a season, but confidence can. It's time for him to be humble and coachable. Leavitt Not Right Coach I watched the USF-Cincinnati football game and saw exactly what I have come to expect from the USF administration, coaches and players. I firmly believe Jim Leavitt is not the proper coach to take this program to the next level. For years, it has been impossible to know which version of this team will show up each week. Until the administration holds the coaches and players accountable for their lack of proper preparation, this program will continue to be a big disappointment. I wish I had a job that would pay $1 million a year and allow me to perform at the mediocre level I see from this head coach each week. The symptoms stand out like a neon light bulb, but no one seems to want to do anything about it. This could have been a breakout year, because they have the talent. ...more
