I read my public "flogging" by Mr. Miller today; I had to chuckle. Firstly, I don't read fiction books often, so excuse me for not reading Mrs. Palin's book. My point was, the use of the word "rogue" in the title and the definition, which is right there in Webster's Dictionary. Secondly, you turn this into a "leftist fear" rant. McCain's decision to bring Mrs. Palin on as his V.P. candidate lost the election for the Republicans, or so my "rightist" friends tell me. "Annie Oakley" in the White House, was not all that appealing to the majority of voters as the election showed. ...more

This is in response to Bill Ross' letter, "Good Read." If Mr. Ross had taken the time to read Ms. Palin's book before critiquing it, he would have found the answer to his own question concerning the choice of the book's title on pages 318 and 319; quote: It was a CNN story, byline by Dana Bash. Palin's off script comments irk McCain aides. Several McCain advisors suggest they have become increasingly frustrated with what one aide described as Palin "going rogue." A Palin associate however said the candidate is simply trying to "bust free" of what she believed was a damaging and mismanaged roll out." ...more

I've been reading the newspapers and watching the news reports on TV about President Obama and his stimulus package. Everyone who is against the plan seems to have forgotten why we're in the position we're in now, but no one wants to put the blame where it really is. ...more

I saw a feature writer column in today's (Jan. 1) paper titled "2008 Democracy Recession." I thought our present recession was caused by the hatred of the Democrats for George W. Bush. Bush told Congress in 2002 that the lack of regulatory restraint on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac was a potential problem that would cause strong repercussions in the financial markets. Rep. Barney Frank and Sen. Charles Schumer brushed him off and paid no heed. Then in 2005, Alan Greenspan told Congress to enable these institutions to increase in size, "Would place the total financial system of the future at a substantial risk." Even Sen. McCain, in 2005, said on the Senate floor that these institutions needed to be reformed. However the Democrats' bias toward Bush resulted in no action. ...more

I know I said I wouldn't write again but the letters you put in Saturday (Nov. 8,) "What Fools" and "Barack Obama" are two more reasons people in Highlands County are living in the Stone Age. These are probably some of the many, many, people who have had it so good these last eight years. These are the people, with 8x12 glossies of GW smirking into the camera, hanging on their walls. I do suppose that the "fools" who voted for "change" are sitting back and having a good laugh at the people who voted for Bush the third (McCain.) Time will prove us right. The only "fools" here are the ones who want to "stay the course." It is a shame to read such bigotry and hate in 90 percent of these letters! Oh the "fools!" ...more
