Two sides of fence After reading your editorial, "Health care reform at our expense" (Our Opinion, Dec. 27), I got really upset with the Trib. All of the flaws, weaknesses, inequities and shameful deal cutting that you pointed out were not news to anyone who followed the debate, yet you sat by during the months it took these bills to be pushed through. Even now you fail to point out that Sen. Bill Nelson and Rep. Kathy Castor put party loyalty above voting in the interest of their citizens. ...more

Something absolutely must be done about the legalized extortion suffered by senior citizens at the hands of health insurance companies. My wife and I have been customers of our health insurance company for seven years. In the first five years, our premiums were increased an average of 18.5 percent per year, despite the fact that the cost of living increased less than 3 percent per year. ...more

The following conservative thoughts from an unidentified health care professional pretty well sum up my feelings. And with now passing the age of being eligible for their revised Medicare Plan, this really hits home: ...more

Mr. Alviano, you have made Mr. Doty's letter look like it's the more sensible of the two; in fact, your letter is hilarious to most reasonable Americans. First, the conservative Republicans only want our government to follow the constitution which the liberal Democrats want to ignore or re-write to their wishes. Social Security, Medicare and unemployment payments are programs that we have taken out of our paychecks; they are not giveaways. ...more
