Regarding "Facing A Place Far Removed From Mayberry" (Metro, May 18): As the wife of a 20-year-plus veteran of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, I would like to commend Sheriff Gee for his brutally honest description of the state of our society. In this day and age of "politically correct" and "intelligent policing," sometimes the truth just needs to be put out there for the world to know. In this case the truth is unnerving, yet it invites us to open our eyes to what these men and women face each and every day. ...more

Regarding "Group Studies Fireworks Sales, Use" (Metro, Feb.18): The task force was a joke as evidenced that three of eight members were from the fireworks industry. Since there is an existing law banning most fireworks, the task force was not needed. Law enforcement just needs to enforce the current law. So now we will have more laws that local law enforcement agencies will not enforce. I was told by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office that they would not respond to my call regarding illegal fireworks in my neighborhood. ...more
