ORLANDO — The lights dimmed on Liz Sottile's reign as the Lake Placid girls soccer team on a misty Thursday night, as a highly talented squad from Lake Highland Prep shut out the Green Dragons 5-0 in the Class 3A regional quarterfinals at CNL Stadium. The fifth-year head coach was all smiles after the game, congratulating her girls on a job well done, sending her out with some hardware of her own. "It would have been nice to get the win, but it's been a great ride," Sottile said. "I've loved my five years at Lake Placid, and to make regionals in my final year and win a trophy was a great way to go out." ...more

SEBRING – The Avon Park boys soccer team didn't walk off the field making excuses or blaming their season on anything but inexperience of soccer players who are finally learning to play as a team. "We played hard out there, especially in the second half," said Avon Park senior Sergio Durand. "This team was finally starting to gel and come together toward the end of the season. The Lake Placid Green Dragons girls soccer team let a gift-wrapped opportunity slip away in a 0-0 tie with the Class 3A-District 8 foe McKeel Academy of Lakeland at Roger Scarborough Stadium on Tuesday. Christmas came early for the Green Dragons at the 60 minute mark of the match, when a hand ball inside the box penalty by McKeel Academy set up a penalty kick for the Lake Placid. ...more
