PALMETTO — Very few times in a sporting career do you get a chance at redemption, but on a very cold Monday night, the Avon Park girls soccer team had an opportunity to erase a whole year's worth of "what-ifs" in an instant. Those questions that arose from the ashes of No. 4 seed Avon Park's shootout loss to Braden River in last year's Class 4A-District 10 tournament were answered when senior Alex Brock's shot went high over Brittany Perez's head and sealed the 4-2 win over the No. 5 seed Bulldogs at Harllee Stadium. ...more

SEBRING — Basketball isn't all glitz and glamour. After all, somebody has to take out the garbage. Sebring backcourt mates Javier Medina and junior Chris Grubb have done just that for the Streaks this season, with Grubb earning the nickname "Garbage Man" by head coach Princeton Harris for his ability to do the dirty things to help his team. Grubb is a natural baller and consummate team player, who can be an explosive offensive threat one minute and diving on the floor for a loose ball the next. His nickname is a moniker he's proud to wear. "I'm the type of player that'll do anything my team needs," Grubb said. "I play hard at both ends and am always working hard to improve." ...more

Last season, he stood by as the Pirates switched coaches, from Dale Caparaso to Tom McHugh. Between, he had to learn new offenses and new positions, and three years into his prep career, he still seemingly is playing everywhere on the field. ...more

After a couple of relatively non-productive first-quarter series, the Titans finally started moving the ball early in the second quarter. A couple of sizeable runs by Chris Brown and a 15-yard reception by Justin Gage got them in scoring range and Tennessee seemed to be on its way to taking a lead when it lined up for a first-and-10 play at the Bucs' 32. The Titans opted to go back to Brown on the next play, but Brown mishandled quarterback Vince Young's handoff and dropped the ball. When Bucs defensive end Patrick Chukwurah pounced on the loose ball, the Titans' offensive threat was squelched. ...more
