On the subject of daytime fishing, I have bad news and I have worse news. The bad news is the morning bite will be dismal at best, unless the weather changes dramatically, producing a barometric drop and lots of cloud cover during the day. Now for the worse news: Afternoons offer much less chances at hooking into your favorite fish. The full moon occurs at 4:52 a.m. Friday, but fishing conditions improve very little from what normally occurs during this lunar cycle. The reason for this is that the water temperature has not dropped enough — allowing a higher oxygen level which cooler water provides. Instead, lake temperatures remain between 78 to 82 degrees, which is five degrees lower than the summertime highs. Once the water temperature norm arrives in the mid to lower 70s, nighttime oxygen levels stay nearer the daytime high, and this means early morning at 4:52, bass are able to feed as they naturally would be inclined due to the full moon event. Since the Full Moon was a week ago and today marks the last quarter moon phase, which occurs at 10:06 a.m., the "Very Early Morning Bite" is "On" in a huge way. The sooner you get out on the lake the sooner you'll be landing your favorite fish. However, because the oxygen levels are still somewhat low in much of the lake areas, your presentation needs to be experimented with until you determine which action the fish prefer. ...more
