It seems that some things are blooming later than usual this year, probably because the heat stayed so long. Also, although most things are well recovered from last winter's freeze, some - such as the snowbushes and the crotons - will take a while to get back to where they were. A handful of Manatee County convenience stores and gas stations have spent the day dubbing surveillance tapes from Monday evening, the night Dr. James Briles came home from work and reported finding his wife, Kathleen, dead. Pulling surveillance video is common in the search for a criminal. Detectives have not released the name or description of the person they are looking for in the videos. The sheriff's office did confirm today that Sheriff Brad Steube has returned from vacation to help handle the case. Steube met with Kathleen Briles's family. ...more

Joe Young scored 17 points and pulled down 13 rebounds and Chris Grubb got hot from behind the arch late to lead the Sebring boys basketball team to its first district title since 2005 with a 53-49 victory over Palmetto in the final of the Class 4A-District 10 tournament at DeSoto High School.
