This letter is to address the recent termination of "Coach" Earnest Perkins. As a parent of a student-football player at Avon Park High School, I have witnessed the influence this man has had on not only my child, but his friends also. AVON PARK — Tears of joy and sorrow mixed with laughter and joyous ovations, as the legacy of Earnest Perkins filled the APHS auditorium, and supporters young and old paid tribute to the former Avon Park football coach. AVON PARK — After 22 games and two seasons without a playoff appearance, Earnest Perkins has been fired as Avon Park High School varsity football coach. AP Principal Stu Guthrie said the decision "was his alone," and although he characterized the move as "not easy," Guthrie said a change at the top was "one that was necessary."
