I have been listening to conservative talkers for some time and I am a little disappointed. It is not the talk the talk, but the walk the walk that is insufficient. A while back I wrote to Judge Bork and asked this question, "Where in our Constitution does it give the government the right to take from one and give to another who does nothing to earn it?" I firmly believe the real reason for the recession is greed in the ranks of the politicians and the very rich. Honesty, integrity and ethics are absolutely not being practiced by them. That's great news, because there's plenty to dislike in what the House passed. We hope before the bill goes to President Obama, it's a much better plan. ...more

In recent weeks the Tribune has published many letters from apparent newcomers to Tampa who have absolutely no knowledge or awareness of the political history of this place. These writers bemoan the fact, sometimes to the point of being ignorantly insulting, that the Tribune focuses on local and state matters. ...more

The Mall in Washington, D.C., was an amazing sight Tuesday. Millions of people crammed together, some hopelessly far away from President Barack Obama's swearing-in ceremony and inaugural speech. But they didn't care; those who attended were there to be a part of history, and to hope for better times in our country. ...more
