SEBRING — Two Sebring men remained in Highlands County Jail on Tuesday in lieu of $136,500 bond each, after deputies raided their home at 6302 Apple Road. Hansel Cruz Vasallo, 22, and Danilo Marcelo Vasallo-Luis, 55, were charged with marijuana production, trafficking in marijuana in excess of 25 pounds and possession of narcotics equipment. AVON PARK — An Avon Park man remained in Highlands County Jail without bond Friday after he was arrested on drug and traffic charges and reportedly trying to elude sheriff's deputies. Willie Lee Jones, 27, of 105 E. Wolf St., Avon Park, was booked Wednesday on charges of cocaine distribution, possession of narcotics equipment, obstruction of or resisting a law enforcement officer without violence, trafficking in opium or a derivative four grams to 30 grams and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. He was also charged with driving while driver's license suspended or revoked, criminal mischief, failure to appear on charges of knowingly driving while driver's license suspended or revoked and violation of restrictions placed on driver's license and on a charge of violation of probation for armed robbery. ...more

SEBRING — It wasn't a load of peaches a Georgia man was stopped transporting Wednesday afternoon through Highlands County. The man remained in Highlands County Jail in lieu of $2,000 bail Thursday, after he was stopped while transporting enough marijuana to make 900 marijuana cigarettes, according to the sheriff's office. Shane Carlton, 21, of Cornelia, Ga., was booked on charges of possession of narcotics equipment to manufacture or deliver and distribution of marijuana. According to the arrest report, the car Carlton was driving was seen speeding doing 72 miles per hour in a 65 mph zone by K-9 Deputy Tom Fort. ...more

SEBRING — Sheriff's detectives needed a keen sense of smell and sharp ears Wednesday to locate a marijuana growhouse operation, the 60th growhouse raided in the county since November 2006. A strong marijuana smell and the sound of growhouse electrical equipment led to the arrest of a Sebring man and woman in connection with the alleged operation at 8460 Tubbs Ranch Road, in Sebring, off of U.S. 98. ...more

VENUS — A remote 10-acre site off of County Road 731 was the site of the 49th growhouse operation to be dismantled in Highlands County since November. More than 100 marijuana plants were seized in this operation. Deysi Lavin Jimenez, 38, and Carlos David Morales, 32, both of 327 County Road 731, Venus, were charged with producing marijuana, possession of marijuana in excess of 25 pounds or 300 plants and possession of narcotics equipment. ...more
