A shortage in donations has left the SPCA Suncoast scrabbling to find funds to keep the lights on. Betty Moore, treasurer for the board of director's says they have taken out a sizable loan to help them through their fiscal year, which ends Feb. 28 but donations are still needed. The City Council has received a proposal from the local unit of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals on how to reduce the city's stray pet population. For the moment, council is only agreeing to discuss the proposal from the SPCA of the Suncoast, which has a price tag in the neighborhood of $16,000 a year. ...more
