More than 16,000 people prowled the grounds of Lowry Park Zoo on Sunday, when admission was $3 for the day. The zoo cuts the price of admission four times a year to make the attraction more accessible, said Rachel Nelson, the zoo's public relations director. She said Sunday's attendance of 16,431 was probably a record. About 4,000 people come to the zoo on a typical Sunday, when admission is $16.95 for adults, $15.95 for seniors and $12.50 for children. Next year, the discounted price likely will jump to $5, Nelson said. Visitors packed the zoo by about noon Sunday, and traffic backed up along Interstate 275 and Sligh Avenue. ...more
