The week before Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa on Feb. 1, volunteers for Habitat for Humanity in Hillsborough and Pinellas counties will be eyeing a record of their own. The sound of nails being hammered and wood being sawed filled the air in Grant Park this week, as Habitat Hillsborough volunteers worked to build a house from slab in just 14 days. The effort is called a Blitz Build, said Ralph Jackson, executive director for the Hillsborough County Habitat for Humanity. The home is being built in memory of Suzie Hastings, the wife of one of the crew leaders who died from breast cancer in January, he said. ...more
