I have to admit I was more than a little dismayed at the lack of attendance at the Jan.17 performance of "Don't Drink the Water" performed at the Highlands Little Theatre by local talent. All the people out there griping about nothing to do in the area just don't listen. For the past number of years, I have been giving praise to the actors and actresses at the Highlands Little Theatre, as well as the behind-the-scene people who do so much. The set design does not arrange itself, the costumes do not just jump on the cast, the lines don't just flow out of their mouths, the lighting doesn't just happen, the cast just don't happen to enter, exit and so forth at the right time. It takes hours of work! So it was heartbreaking to see the number of empty seats in the theater as if people just don't care. ...more

I'm here to tell you that if you didn't take the time to get up out of your easy chair in front of the TV and head out to the Highland's Little Theatre to see the young people perform, you missed a good night out. "The Super Secret Surprise Casserole" and "Cinderella Wore Combat Boots" both were perform by young people 18 and under. And what a job they did. Cameron Reck did the directing, although Cameron has done a lot of acting, singing and dancing he has never done directing before. I might add he did a nice job. Heather Lemos was assistant director/sound tech; Chris Friend, producer-lighting tech; Gunnar Westergom, stage manager; Anna Schmidt, choreographer-sound tech; Bethany Finney, wardrobe, and Chelsea Hiller, makeup. Of course these young people had adults who mentored them but the young people did the work and my hat goes off to them. The acting was super. ...more

My profound thanks to friends Ed and Stella McGowan for taking me to the Highlands Little Theatre last Friday night to see Cole Porter and friends, a cabaret style musical extravaganza. This was directed by Pete Pollard and a talented cast of singers. Hearing all of these "old" songs brought back memories. I have been a "season ticket holder" for 28 years and I was once told that I have never said anything "bad" about our shows, and I never could. Coming in May, our brilliant "young" director, Cameron Reck will bring youth shows. In June we'll see "Dearly Departed." The last "fall show" will be "AIDA," directed by Tammie Pollard, and this is one you cannot miss. Tammie has discovered a young singer who will "blow your socks off." ...more
