In a bizarre drive-by targeting the homeless, the occupants of a car early this morning threw containers of acid at a group of people who were sleeping outside the St. Vincent de Paul Society soup kitchen. One of the hurled plastic containers struck a stop sign outside the food center at 401 15th St. N., and its contents spewed onto a blanket under which a 44-year-old woman was sleeping, said St. Petersburg police spokesman Bill Proffitt. The last remnants of one of the city's oldest businesses are going to fade into history. The city has awarded a contract to D.H. Griffin Wrecking Co. to tear down the remaining buildings and other structures at the former Stock Building Supply at 510 and 511 S.
