I was attending a meeting of the Republican executive committee when Ron Grimming announced as a candidate for sheriff. The scope of his law enforcement background in conjunction with his leadership credentials essentially eliminated any other potential Republican candidate from announcing. It's unfortunate there was only one debate sponsored by Highlands Today. As the campaign unfolded, Ron has focused on the issues and is specific about what he will and will not do. For those of you who are not familiar with Ron, I encourage you to request literature from the Republican headquarters at 461 S. Bill Bunting has decided destruction of Republican campaign signs has gone too far. Bunting, chairman of the Pasco County Republican Executive Committee, said the local party is offering a $1,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of anyone responsible for defacing signs promoting presidential candidate John McCain, U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis or any other Republican candidate. The reward also can be collected for fingering vandals who target Republican homes. Bunting reported that someone spray painted Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's name, along with a vulgarity, on the Port Richey house of a McCain supporter. Pasco Democrats don't plan to offer any rewards, but they also are having a problem, though not with graffiti on houses. ...more
