TEMPLE TERRACE - The Temple Terrace City Council moved Tuesday, June 17, toward closing its deal with the master developer of the city's downtown revitalization project. The council unanimously approved Aug. 15 as the date city officials will sign a $14.9 million contract to turn over 20.36 acres of a blighted shopping district southeast of Bullard Parkway and 56th Street to the partnership of Ram Development Co. and Pinnacle Realty Advisors. In turn, the developer has plans to build a $45 million mixed-use, pedestrian-friendly center that will include 245,479 square feet of retail, residential, restaurant, office and civic/cultural components. ...more

SEBRING — Highlands County commissioners will consider seeking grant money to continue the neighborhood revitalization of the Washington Heights neighborhood from the city of Sebring into the abutting Lincoln Heights area, which lies in the unincorporated area. Commissioner Barbara Stewart raised that idea last week after the five commissioners voted unanimously to donate $1,000 for equipment rentals for the June 21 Juneteenth community festival in Washington Heights. Both Stewart and Edgar Stokes, chairman of the county commissioners, said they were impressed by the streetscape project, which is improving the appearance of Lemon Street at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, the center of the Washington Heights neighborhood. Further improvements to the neighborhood will be discussed by neighborhood residents and city leaders at two "visioning" sessions, scheduled for 6-9 p.m. Friday, July 18 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 19. ...more

Michael Marshall will oversee the $45 million downtown revitalization project that is to include 20.36 acres of retail, residential, restaurant, office and civic/cultural components southeast of Bullard Parkway and 56th Street. The property is the site of two antiquated shopping plazas. He replaces Ralph Bosek, who steps down May 30 after serving in the position for almost five years. ...more
