Clumsy Legalese Like many of my fellow Floridians, I went to the polls this week armed with my completed sample ballot and spent just a few minutes casting my vote in the booth. This election cycle, all voters will be "on their mark" using the new legislative-mandated optical scan voting equipment that replaces the touch-screen voting machines. Voters will mark paper ballots they feed through optical scanners before exiting the polls. I read with interest, both the original article on the waste of taxpayers' dollars by the elections department, and the rebuttal/clarification by Supervisor of Elections Annie Williams. She states that it wasn't a waste of our money because the mailings were paid for by a federal grant. But isn't a federal grant funded by tax dollars? ...more
