LAKE PLACID — The Schooni's Family Restaurant team rallied from seven runs down and then held off the Michelle Yates Insurance team for a 15-14 victory in Lake Placid senior softball league play on Wednesday at the Lake June Ball fields. The tying run was on third base and the winning run was on second when the final out was recorded. Manager Jim Guild had a bases-loaded triple to lead the rally for Schooni's. Cliff Bluml and Howard Carney each contributed three hits and several others had two hits for the winners. ...more

SEBRING — The longest game this season for the Sebring senior softball league took place on Tuesday between the Reflections and Discount Aluminum Teams. The merry-go-round slugfest, which went 10 innings was won 25-24 by Reflections. Gary Vanthournout led Reflections at the plate, going 4 for 6 and getting on base in the 10th inning. Joe Hynzy then slammed a double to drive Gary home for the winning run. Hynzy finished 5 for 7 with two doubles, while Bill Yeager was 4 for 6 with a home run, Wayne Hill was 5 for 6, and Kyle Saunders, Ron Lewis, Cal Bready, Ed Lindberg each went 4 for 6. For Discount Aluminum, James Gilbert was 5 for 5 with two homers, Leslie Smith was 4 for 5 with a home run and Rudy Pibble and Ken Crandall were each 4 for 5. ...more

Jassen Cullimore's goal 1:37 into overtime gave the Panthers a 4-3 victory over the Islanders, snapping a three-game losing streak. Cullimore ripped a slap shot from the left circle into the top right corner of the net for his first goal of the season. The win gave Florida coach Jacques Martin his 498th NHL coaching victory, putting him in sole possession of 10th place on the all-time win list for head coaches. He surpassed Glen Sather.
