Theo Smalling, a Hampton University basketball player who attended Bloomingdale High School, died Monday night after being accidentally shot over the weekend in Virginia. "The motto of it is 'Just Play,'" said Becky Rousch, director of community education at South Florida Community College. "The senior games have less of an emphasis on competition than it has on living a healthy lifestyle, staying active and trying new things." In the spirit of trying new things, a new sport has been added to this year's line-up – pickleball, a sport similar to badminton that is played with a wooden paddle and wiffleball. Little shock value is left when professional or Olympic athletes are busted for using performance-enhancing drugs. That's too bad, because it should outrage us. More importantly, it should move professional sports to require more rigorous testing, and then put the money into the programs so drugs of all kinds can be detected. ...more
